Description

9 day Sailing get together for Starlight Sailing Students and crew. 

Bring your boat or prearrange to come with someone you know. We will leave Sooke with the current on June 13th and return by the 21st. 

We will be sailing, anchoring, hiking, visiting remote Islands, joining in Sailstice Festivities, and just generally having fun on our boats. You will need a dinghy for when we are at anchor if you want to go to shore.

You are expected to have charts for the area, GPS, depth sounder and all Transport Canada required equipment onboard. PFD will be worn at all times while the boat is moving or you are in a dinghy.

What to bring?

Footwear

Non Scuffing footwear. Boat shoes, Teva-type sandals or tennis shoes. (to see if it scuffs if you take it off and slide an edge of the sole on paper)

Clothing

Foul weather/Rain gear, fleece jacket, , windbreaker and a sweater layer is good, during summer rain gear is usually not needed. Shorts, sandals, warm weather and water cloths.

Personal

Sunglasses with safety string and side protection, sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), and a cell phone or camera.’

Food and water for 9 days. Half way through we will stop for groceries and ice. There may not be refills for you boat water so bring enough.

Basic Cruising Standard (Part 1)

This is one of the entry levels in the series of Sail Canada courses on sailing keelboats and on cruising, Two days on the water learning the basics. Good for individuals with minimal practical on water experience. This entry level course builds basic sailing skills with a focus on operation of the vessel as competent crew. There is no exam.

Basic Cruising Standard (Part 2)

3-day (Part 2) or 5- day Cruise and Learn (Part 1 and 2). Basic Cruising Standard (Day Skipper) Can be three days in a row or three days one week apart for locals. If you want to go for a liveaboard cruise and learn the same things try the 5-day Cruise and Learn but spend more time on the water.

Goal: To be able to cruise safely in local waters as both skipper and crew in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. 

Coastal Navigation

We offer the Basic and Intermediate Navigation at he same time. You study at home on your own schedule, write the Basic exam first and when you pass, we then schedule the Intermediate exam.
