  • Will I see wildlife while sailing?

    Read Answer

During our adventures, we frequently encounter an array of wildlife, including seals, eagles, ducks, geese, river otters, and sea lions. Occasionally, we are fortunate enough to spot Orcas and Humpback Whales. However, please note that these sightings are not guaranteed, as we have no control over the movements of these magnificent creatures.

  • What certifications do you have?

    Read Answer

We hold certifications from Sail Canada to teach Basic and Intermediate Cruising Standards, Marine VHF Radio, Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), and Coastal Navigation. With Advanced Cruising Standards under our belts, we continually refine our skills. Our team possesses Marine Medicals, is trained in First Aid, and has completed SOLAS Safety at Sea courses along with Diesel Maintenance classes.

  • Can I use my own sailboat?

    Read Answer

We offer instruction on both our boat and yours. To ensure safety, your boat must comply with all Transport Canada Boat Safety regulations. We are happy to inspect your boat before the course to confirm it meets these standards.

  • What do I need to wear while sailing?

    Read Answer

Clothing: Our courses will proceed rain or shine unless wind conditions are too hazardous for safe sailing. Dressing in layers is essential, as there’s often a significant temperature difference between the beach and the boat in light breezes. We recommend synthetic fabrics like merino wool or polypropylene, as they are quick-drying and provide warmth even when wet. Avoid cotton and denim, as they tend to stay wet and cold once damp. For sunny days, consider bringing a light windbreaker, a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock. For rainy days, waterproof gear such as a rain jacket, rain pants, and waterproof footwear is necessary. Footwear: Closed-toed shoes are a must for walking on the deck; please avoid sandals or flip-flops. Ensure your shoes have non-marking soles (preferably white, light grey, or cream). Rubber boots with soft, non-marking soles are suitable for rainy days. Waterproof shoes are ideal, as the cockpit can get wet. Please, no black-soled shoes unless they are explicitly labeled as non-marking or you can rub the sole firmly on a white piece of paper and no mark show up.

  • Can I bring kids sailing?

    Read Answer

Age Restrictions: There is no specific age limit for children to go sailing, but younger children will need more supervision. For example, children under 24-36 months should have 1:1 supervision. Safety Gear: All children must wear properly fitted personal flotation devices (PFDs). Federal law requires children under 13 to wear a life jacket when the vessel is underway. Supervision Ratios: The ratio of supervision can vary based on age: Under 6 years: 1 adult per child. Ages 6-9: 1 adult for every 2 children. Ages 10-11: Standard precautions apply. Safety Measures: Ensure the boat is equipped with safety features like netting around the deck to prevent falls before bringing them on deck. Activities: Plan activities that are age-appropriate and engaging to keep children entertained and safe.
