Description

3-day or 5- day Cruise and Learn. Introductory, Basic Cruising Standard (Day Skipper) Can be three days in a row if you travel to get here or three days one week apart for locals. If you want to go for a liveaboard cruise and learn the same things try the 5-day Cruise and Learn but spend more time on the water.

Goal: To be able to sail and cruise safely in local waters as both skipper and crew in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. 

Availability & Dates

Good to know

3 days is for those restricted to the amount of time. If local 3 days one week apart is best. If from away may have to be 3 days in a row, weekday or weekend.

5 days for those with more time, local or from away, and wanting to experience liveaboard cruising.

Home study the material.
Can be three Saturdays or Sundays or any combination of three days.
Won’t take up your whole Vacation.
Lots of places to stay in Sooke.

What to bring?

Footwear

Non Scuffing footwear. Boat shoes, Teva-type sandals or tennis shoes. (to see if it scuffs if you take it off and slide an edge of the sole on paper)

Clothing

Foul weather/Rain gear, fleece jacket, windbreaker and a sweater layer is good, during summer rain gear is usually not needed.

Personal

Sunglasses with safety string and side protection, sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), and a cell phone or camera.’

Entertainment

Reading material, and games.

Documentation

Current driver’s license, current passport (if US travel is planned), birth certificate copy (if US travel is planned), next of kin contact information, PCOC Card, other sailing qualifications (if you have any), sailing logbook (we can provide if needed), evidence of travel insurance coverage, and BC Tidal fishing license if you wish to fish or gather shellfish (if there’s time).

Basic Cruising Standard
Part 1

An introductory course, Basic Cruising Standard (Competent Crew) Can be two days in a row on a  weekend or weekday. If you want to go for a liveaboard cruise and learn try the 5-day Cruise and Learn. Spend more time on the water and end up with your Day Skipper Certification.

Goal: To be able to cruise safely in local waters as both skipper and crew in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. 

Intermediate Cruising Standard

5 – days and 4 nights Bareboat Skipper Course on the water cruising on the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Southern Gulf Islands. With the ultimate goal of being able to cruise safely in local waters as both skipper and crew in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. This course is designed for those with experience on cruising sailboats in tidal waters.

Coastal Navigation

We offer the Basic and Intermediate Navigation at he same time. You study at home on your own schedule, write the Basic exam first and when you pass, we then schedule the Intermediate exam.
